In 1932, in Old Delhi, Jagdamba Prashad Mathur started a small perfumery using natural ingredients like herbs, roots, and plants. His craft was passed on to his son Durga Prashad Mathur, who continued the family tradition with simplicity and dedication, supported by Raj Rani Mathur.

In the 1960s, international visitors discovered their products, opening doors to global markets. In 1972, Song of India was officially born. With growing worldwide demand, production expanded to Noida, and in 1988 a North American office was established in Seattle. Under the leadership of Ashok Mathur, the family business evolved into a globally recognized brand, while preserving its heritage of natural fragrances, Ayurveda, and authentic craftsmanship.
